About the Site

Picture
This site was a class requirement of ComStud 106 - Writing for Specific Purposes under Prof. Cora Morgia, offered the 2nd semester of AY 2009-2010 by the Department of Communication and Media Studies, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mindanao State University-Marawi. It's entitled All Things Mindanao because its contents reflect the image of Mindanao according to the writers' viewpoints. While that semester ended long ago, the writers still try to fill it with content when they have the time.

About the Writers

At the establishment of this website, the writers were all 4th year students of Mindanao State University-Marawi (the first four took up Communication Studies majoring in Journalism) and editors of the university's official student publication, the Mindanao Varsitarian. But a lot has happened since then.
Alamira Rasmia Nafisa L. Alonto has been in love with campus journalism since high school. The hardest part of being an editor, she thinks, is when you're trying to keep your head on even when she so wants to strangle her staff. She considers it all normal, but softens up as soon as the person she's telling off is on the brink of tears. Right now, Alamirahas just finished her vacation and is preparing for the stress that comes with work, work, work. Hello, mainstream media!

Mera Princess E. Arpilleda is a debater first and a writer next. She is a hopeless case of I realized-I-wrote-something-too-much-but-it's-kinda-too-late-to-turn-back-now kind of thing. She holds the title of being the most suicidal among the group. Mera is located in Cebu, working for her studies and family. She continues to be a free spirit.

Mercie D. Belandres has only one goal with regards to journalism: the one with the most number of death threats wins. Of course, that don't mean she's suicidal. Maybe just a little intense and excited about what she's learned in her journalism majors about exposing chika, este, anomalies that she sees. Mercie is also working in Cebu, trying to get to know its inner workings before applying for a real newspaper.

Sarah Jane B. Ditucalan is another journalism major who has an attribute in the extremes when it comes to the critique. Instead of being sarcastic and mean about what she writes, Sar (no, not the virus), often takes it all in stride and makes jokes about MSU life. As long as you're not the butt of her jokes in her write-ups, you won't need to sue her for libel. Sarah has gone back to campus life, now being a law student. The Journ Ladies wish her luck on all her future sufferings.

Ahmad S. Musahari is the thorn among the roses: a former senior photojournalist of Mindanao Varsitarian and a BS Zoology graduate. Although his choice of study is quite far from what he loves to do (travel, write and take shots), Ahmad is a freelance blogger who has one mission: to show the world how a single man with great determination can change a whole generation! Ahmad hails from Sulu and is now working in Zamboanga City for an NGO. Soon he will be one of the best Muslim doctors in Mindanao (InshaAllah).
